Sims 4 Legacy Challenge

When I was in high school, my brother and I saved up some money together and bought a copy of the Sims 2 basegame on eBay. Without any expansions, or knowledge of how to use mods, we both logged a ton of hours on our shared PC goofing around with pre-made families. After almost all of the DLC was out, I acquired the expansions to play on my laptop because I was heavily inspired by LiveJournal communities to start my first Legacy Challenge. I never posted it anywhere but I had fun making up stories by myself. Almost a decade ago now, I played through 4-5 generations of a legacy in the Sims 4, but after switching computers around, losing my mods folder, and just life happening, I abandoned the project and never finished it.

Lately, I've been watching a lot of JamesTurnerYT, especially the Big Wallet Challenge playlists. To be honest, Rags to Riches was never my forte. It was hard to make money in Sims 2 and too easy to do it Sims 4. But I like how James always gives himself bonus challenges to tie in whatever is the newest DLC to release.

While I am going to give myself quite a bit of leeway, I thought it would be fun to try my hand at a Rags to Riches Legacy. It's so satisfying to watch several generations of Sims change the landscape of the world, weaving a complex and silly lore along the way.

Meet Prospera Faust, our legacy founder. Isn't she a cutie? A Family Sim with the aspiration to have a Successful Lineage, Prospera is a Cheerful, Overachiever, and Bookworm. She's actually a Sim that I created for my Super Sim Challenge and there was a whole situation with MCC at the start-up to remove all of her bonus traits, aspiration progress, fame, milestones, etc. so that we could start with a clean slate. When you fall in love with a Sim you make in CAS, always upload them to your Gallery. Don't be a dummy like me and have to work backwards when you want to use them again haha

Here are some soft goals that I made for myself:

Not every generation is going to have an immortality goal... but when I made Prospera for the Super Sim Challenge, I was thinking about the play Doctor Faustus and deals with the Devil. It might be fun to have Prospera around for each generation lurking in the background. And then maybe somewhere down the line she can finally pass on and be reincarnated (assuming I buy the Life and Death Expansion.)

I am playing with Custom Content and some minor script mods, but nothing that is going to significantly give me any leg up. We are starting with 0 cash at the beginning of each generation no matter how wealthy they grow up. Eventually, we'll make our way through each world!

Prospera moved into the empty lot that is Bargain Bend. It was raining so I knew we would have to work fast to keep up with her needs. For this first run, I don't want to rely on careers for money so we traveled to the park to fish, dig, and harvest. The grills, bathrooms, and benches were a big help until Prospera had enough funds to buy a tent and a little shack. After a couple more days of literal farming around town, I we expanded the shelter to move a proper bed inside. She looks so proud!

With more cash in hand, Prospera went to the Romance Festival hoping to find someone to settle down with since she was already rolling the want to have a baby. Her first choice was Anjelo, but it turns out he's not into women. I'm sure he will be a heavily featured gay bestie. Next, Prospera invited over Imane Al Arabi, who she had met at the library, and sparks were flying fast. I love the retro, Barbie style she had.

After painting a few masterpieces (one of the easiest ways to make simoleons with the basegame) and dates making out in the closet of night clubs while a man sobs next door, Prospera proposed and it was time for a makeover. Initially, I was going to try and keep the retro style, but I wanted to let Imane embrace her natural hair texture more. While changing her outfits, I also learned that she wants to be Lady of the Knits and is a Neat, Gloomy, Bookworm. Such a cute pair!

Since Imane did not have any roommates, we brought her entire life savings into our household and gave the house a makeover. One goal I have for myself is to learn how to build lots. I always download from the gallery and spend more time decorating than anything else, but for this Legacy I want to build everything from the ground up: at least for their home. The town reno will definitely be downloads. For the most part, their engagement was quiet and mundane moments at home but sometimes life has unexpected surprises.

With the house renovations complete (including a nursery for after the wedding), I replaced Magnolia Blossom with a makeover by KoruschaGendeson. Prospera and Imane got married in the lush wedding spot at the park.

And as soon as they got home it was time to have a science baby together! Meet Evadne Faust, first in line as the heir for Generation 2. She grew into a Wiggly infant and is sure to be a handful.
